Mechanical Problems May Have Caused New Jersey Aviation Accident

Jason Snyder, 33, and his 34-year-old Jennifer Snyder, were critically injured after their Beechcraft Sundowner Model 23 airplane crashed in Linden, New Jersey, on December 21, 2008. According to this news report, the aircraft went down near Linden Avenue and Pleasant Street. Eyewitnesses told officials they saw the plane flying low before it crashed into some trees not far from a small generate aviation airport.

Both Jason and Jennifer Snyder were reportedly able to crawl out of the aircraft that had caught fire. They were transported to a Newark hospital where they are said to be in critical condition. They are expected to recover from their injuries. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials are trying to look into whether the airplane crashed because of mechanical problems or inclement weather. The pilot, Jason Snyder, had apparently reported mechanical problems shortly before the airplane crash occurred.

If this aviation accident was caused by a product defect in the aircraft, then the manufacturers of those defective products may be held liable for the accident and injuries caused to the Snyders. The injured victims would be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced and reputed New York personal injury lawyer who has an excellent track record dealing with aviation accidents.

Woman Charged in DWI Accident That Killed Man in Wheelchair

A 24-year-old New York woman has been indicted in the hit-and-run death of 51-year-old Ranford Beckford, the New York Newsday reports. Police say Lauren Dean was driving drunk when she hit Beckford’s motorized wheelchair in Coram. New York. Dean then reportedly fled the scene of the New York auto accident. She faces several charges including first-degree manslaughter and faces five to 15 years in prison.

But Dean is saying that she never hit anybody. She told police she thought she hit the curb. But officials say Dean had a blood alcohol level of .242 percent, more than three times the legal limit in New York, which is 0.08 percent. Dean has pleaded not guilty to the charges of felony hit-and-run resulting in a death and three misdemeanors including aggravated driving while intoxicated and driving without a license.

We hope this woman is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and is both criminally and civilly responsible for causing the death of Ranford Beckford. The victim’s family in this case can file a wrongful death claim against the driver because this accident, based on this news report, was caused by a drunk and negligent driver. Beckford’s family will be entitled to compensation for medical and funeral expenses, loss of wages and other damages.

If you or a loved one has been serious injured or killed in a New York auto accident, please call the Law Offices of Wingate, Russotti & Shapiro to find out about your legal rights. We will hold the wrongdoers accountable and make sure you receive the compensation you rightfully deserve. We always offer a free consultation.

Manhattan Construction Accident Seriously Injures Worker

Four construction workers were injured – one seriously – during a pre-dawn excavation accident at a building side in midtown Manhattan, according to this Newsday report. The injuries occurred after a “structural collapse” on West 42nd Street on December 11, 2008. One worker was trapped under the fallen construction materials, including concrete and a sidewalk shed. The worker who was seriously injured suffered severe injuries to his leg following the New York construction accident, the news report states.

Hundreds of workers are killed every year and tens of thousands are injured – many seriously – in construction accidents in the United States each year. The construction industry ranks third in the rate of fatal injuries following mining and agriculture. For every 100,000 workers, 15 die because of injury. There are several construction site hazards that could result in fatal or serious injuries including scaffolding accidents, falls, forklift accidents, electrocution, machinery accidents, workers struck by falling objects and crane accidents.

There is no question that construction jobs are high-risk, but there are also several steps an employer can take to ensure workers’ safety. Not only should these safety standards be strictly adhered to, but employers should also train their workers properly with regard to these standards and procedures.

If you or a loved one has been seriously injured in a New York construction accident, you may be entitled to significant compensation for medical expenses and lost wages. Please call Wingate, Russotti & Shapiro to schedule a free consultation and case discussion. We will remain on your side and fight for your rights to secure the compensation you are due.
